Published on June 26, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta's ongoing purge of Deputy President William Ruto's allies in parliament has seen six more lawmakers removed from their positions in various committees.
Yesterday, Deputy Majority Whip Maoka Maore signed letters dated June 24, informing Julius Melly (Education), Ali Wario (Labour and Social Welfare), William Kisang (Communication, Information and Innovation), Joseph Limo (Finance and National Planning), and Joash Nyamoko (Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library) that they would be discharged from their committee leadership positions within seven days.
These removals come on the heels of a similar purge that saw 16 other lawmakers lose their positions in the House. Other notable lawmakers who have been removed include Gladys Shollei (Uasin Gishu), Kimani Ichung'wa (Kikuyu), and William Cheptumo (Baringo North).
Deputy President Ruto's allies in the Senate have also not been spared, with eight senators, including Leader of Majority in the House Kipchumba Murkomen, being removed from their positions last month.
The de-whipped legislators have since met at Jubilee Asili offices in Nairobi to plan their next move, which insiders say could lead to more political fireworks in the ruling party.
