President Uhuru Kenyatta has personally supervised the refurbishing and facelifting of Nyayo Stadium, a 45,000-seat venue in Kenya, which has been closed for three years.
According to reports, the President made an impromptu visit to the facility two weeks ago, accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and other officials, including Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed and Principal Secretary Joe Okudo.
The renovation works, which were initially expected to be completed by the end of last month, are now 90 percent complete, and the facility is expected to be opened by the end of this month.
Originally closed in 2017 to host the 2018 Africa Nations Championships (Chan), Nyayo Stadium has undergone significant renovations, which have been overseen by President Kenyatta himself.
On his visit, the President was seen driving himself and was accompanied by a small security detail, a rare sight for a head of state.
As the stadium prepares to reopen, Kenyans are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see the new look of the facility.
