Published on June 26, 2020, the Office of Controller of Budget is set to introduce an automated system to streamline the processing of fund releases in government entities.
Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang'o has partnered with the National Treasury and the Central Bank in the development of the exchequer automation system.
The system is expected to greatly improve the turnaround time of processing exchequer approvals once implemented, with the current manual process being mapped to the automated system.
County Finance executives are expected to ensure compliance with guidelines to facilitate timely release and efficient flow of funds.
According to Senator George Khaniri, the slow process of releasing funds to counties has led to low absorption rates and poor service delivery, with county staff, especially health workers, often striking due to late payments of their salaries.
