Liverpool Crowned Premier League Champions ¶
On June 26, 2020, Liverpool secured the 2019/2020 Premier League title after Manchester City's dramatic 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea's resurgent performance saw them down 10-man Manchester City, courtesy of Christian Pulisic and a Willian penalty.
Manchester City's hopes of delaying Liverpool's coronation were dashed when they fell behind in the 36th minute, with Pulisic capitalizing on a Benjamin Mendy error to slot home his second goal in as many matches.
Despite emerging with more intensity in the second half, Manchester City's best player of the season, Kevin De Bruyne, scored his 10th league goal with a sublime freekick, but it was not enough to salvage their title hopes.
Chelsea's Tammy Abraham nearly sealed the win with a goal, but Christian Pulisic's effort after rounding the goalkeeper was dramatically kept out by Kyle Walker off the line.
However, City's nervy mood was their downfall, as a goal line melee in the 76th minute resulted in Fernandinho handling the ball in the area, leading to a penalty that Willian converted to seal City's fate as outgoing champions.
Chelsea's win moved them five points clear of Manchester United in the hunt for Champions League football, while Manchester City will take solace in their continued pursuit of a treble this season.
