Chelsea player ratings: Christian Pulisic shines as Willian penalty seals win vs Man City ¶
Chelsea secured a crucial win against Manchester City on June 25, 2020, thanks to Christian Pulisic's electric performance and Willian's penalty.
Here's how the Chelsea players fared in the match:
Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga ¶
Almost got Chelsea into a dire position with a poor ball early in the game, but made up for it later on with an excellent save to deny Fernandinho.
He received a rating of 6.
Defender Cesar Azpilicueta ¶
Was pinned down more over the course of the game and struggled to make much of the ball going forward, but his defensive play was excellent.
He kept Raheem Sterling pretty quiet through much of the game and received a rating of 7.
Defender Andreas Christensen ¶
Looked a lot more composed and strong in the tackle during the first half, dealing well with the roaming City front line.
In the second half, he was excellent as well, standing up tall to the task when called upon and receiving a rating of 8.
Defender Antonio Rudiger ¶
Was strong in the header and the back line looked a lot more organised in the first half, with City only really having chances from deep.
He got Kepa out of trouble early in the game and received a rating of 7.
Midfielder Marcos Alonso ¶
There was only one chance where he really got forward in the first half and it came to nothing, but defensively he did pretty well as well.
In the second half, he really sat back to protect, and Riyad Mahrez had very little of the ball and impact, receiving a rating of 7.
Midfielder N'Golo Kante ¶
Impressive again in the holding role and crucially broke up play at times and held a good position to not let City have a lot of joy around the box.
However, in the second half, it was his foul which led to the goal, but he was exposed, receiving a rating of 8.
Midfielder Mason Mount ¶
Not enough quality on the ball when he had it, but off the ball there probably wasn't a player on the pitch who worked harder.
He tried to close down the City players, who at times knocked it round him, receiving a rating of 7.
Midfielder Ross Barkley ¶
Had a really good effort blocked, but really at times he struggled to get into the match and made the wrong choices on the ball.
He struggled to get a grip on the midfield and received a rating of 6.
Forward Christian Pulisic ¶
A real energy on the wing and took his goal tremendously well.
He was lively and a real outlet, receiving a rating of 9.
Forward Olivier Giroud ¶
Frustratingly offside a couple of times, however he started to get into the game as the first half wore on and his flicks helped open up space for the Blues.
However, in the second half, he didn't really impact things before being taken off, receiving a rating of 6.
Substitutes ¶
Chelsea made several substitutions during the match, with Tammy Abraham, Pedro, Mateo Kovacic, and Billy Gilmour all coming on.
Abraham had a massive part in winning the penalty and helped spread the play, receiving a rating of 6.
Kovacic helped solidify the midfield and put in a good shift during his time on the pitch, receiving a rating of 6.
