Dr Jyotee Trivedy, a 50-year-old ophthalmologist, has been running since 2011 and has covered over 500km since the Covid-19 lockdown.
She started running after a friend suggested it as a way to stay fit, and has since completed 17 marathons and numerous other runs in various locations around Nairobi.
When the government rolled out restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19, Dr Trivedy continued to run, safely within the new constraints, even after her track closed down.
She has found that running has numerous benefits, including maintaining a lean body, strengthening her bones and immune system, slowing the aging process, enjoying nature, lowering her stress and anxiety levels, and sleeping better.
Dr Trivedy has also added other exercises to her fitness regime, including skipping a rope, doing stretches, crunches, squats, and surya namaskar, and has indulged in shoes and fitness watches.
For inspiration, she advises career women on how to make running a way of life and a gateway of happiness, instead of viewing it as a one-off exercise.
She emphasizes the importance of establishing a habit, going for distance rather than time, and running with someone who can encourage you.
Dr Trivedy has figured out how to juggle work, family, and exercises, and advises others to do the same by making time for themselves each day.
She also shares her tips on how to stay safe while running outdoors during the Covid-19 pandemic, including wearing a mask and choosing a safe route.
