ODM leader Raila Odinga has been in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, seeking specialized treatment for a minor health issue.
According to his elder brother Oburu Odinga, Raila underwent minor back surgery at a German hospital in Dubai and is expected to return to the country soon.
“Jakom (Raila) is out of the country for a minor surgical operation on his back. It is not a serious health issue, but just a minor one. So, he’s okay,” Oburu told the Daily Nation.
Oburu also clarified that Raila was not in China, contrary to earlier reports, and had not traveled there since December last year.
Earlier, ODM communications director Philip Etale had dismissed reports that Raila had traveled to China for cancer medication, stating that he was in DR Congo in his capacity as African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development.
It is worth noting that blogger Dennis Itumbi was the first to report that Odinga had traveled abroad on a chartered plane to seek treatment in the company of his daughter Winnie Odinga and a few aides.
