On June 25, 2020, Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Juma handed down a significant sentence to Sirisia MP John Waluke and his co-accused Grace Wakhungu.
Waluke and Wakhungu were found guilty of fraud involving Ksh297 million in the NCPB maize scandal.
As part of the sentence, Waluke was fined Ksh594 million, while Wakhungu was directed to pay a similar fine.
Failure to pay the fines would result in a 7-year imprisonment sentence for both individuals.
The duo had spent the past three days at the Kileleshwa Police Station awaiting sentencing.
The prosecution had alleged that Waluke, as a director of Erad Supplies and General Contractors, made a false invoice worth Ksh114,600,000 to support a maize storage claim by Chelsea Freights.
Waluke was also charged with fraudulently acquiring Ksh297 million from the public as the cost of storing the maize, which was to be supplied to NCPB.
