On June 30, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee will convene in a virtual meeting to address pressing issues, including the establishment of the Women's Champion League and the status of this year's Africa Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON).
As part of its recently released strategy, CAF aims to strengthen domestic leagues and clubs through the introduction of new continental club competitions, aligning with the five-pillar strategy.
The Women's Champion League has been a long-standing demand from players and coaches, who argue that the current domestic leagues and league cups do not provide sufficient competition for female footballers, limiting their opportunities to test themselves against foreign opponents.
The meeting will also deliberate on the fate of AWCON, which is scheduled to take place from November to December but may be postponed due to the complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Congo-Brazaville's withdrawal has left the host country unassigned, with Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea expressing interest in taking over.
