Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura Appointed into Speaker's Panel

Published on June 25, 2020

Senator Isaac Mwaura has made history by becoming the youngest MP to be appointed into the Speaker's Panel in both the Senate and National Assembly.

According to a notice by Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, Mwaura's appointment was made to fill the vacancy left by Senator Margaret Kamar, who was appointed as the Senate Deputy Speaker.

Before his appointment, Mwaura had expressed interest in the Senate Deputy Speaker position but bowed out of the race after Jubilee Party endorsed Kamar.

As a member of the Speaker's Panel, Mwaura will be presiding over Senate proceedings in the absence of Speaker Lusaka and his deputy Kamar.

Senator Mwaura is also the highest-ranking person with a disability and the first to hold such a position in parliamentary house leadership.

"It has been my dream to be in such a position since I first visited Parliament in 2009 to present a petition on behalf of people with albinism," Mwaura said.

"I am a trailblazer and always motivated to serve God through humanity and I believe that no one should ever edit themselves out but keep on trying since it’s only in trying that one is able to make it," he added.

Before Kamar, the position was occupied by former Imenti Central MP Gitobu Imanyara.
