DCI Arrests Suspected Serial Killer in Nairobi ¶
On May 31, a dismembered body of an unidentified woman was found dumped in Tumaini Primary school ground in Umoja, Nairobi. The body was later linked to David Migwi Kariuki, a suspect who had been charged with murder after a similar incident in April last year.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kariuki had seduced the woman and taken her to his house where he is believed to have killed her on an unknown date and time last month. He then wrapped her body into four separate bales using wedding décor materials before moving houses.
Kariuki was later traced and arrested in Ruai on June 3, after he had relocated from Umoja. The DCI opposed bail and bonds for him, citing that he was a flight risk and likely to interfere with the investigations.
DCI's inspector John Kanampiu, who is investigating the case, said that Kariuki is under investigations for the murder of Peninah Wairimu Njeri, a woman who was killed under similar circumstances in April last year. Kanampiu said that Kariuki is likely to interfere with the investigations and that he has no fixed place of residence.
Justice Luka Kimaru will rule on Kariuki's application for bond on July 8. In the meantime, Kariuki remains in custody, awaiting high court's determination on his application.
