On June 23, 2020, Western Stima Chairman Laban Jobita received a letter from Kenya Power and Lighting Company announcing the termination of their sponsorship effective July.

The company attributed the move to low returns in the past few months due to the economic ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic.

Western Stima has been sponsored by Kenya Power and Lighting Company since 2015, but the club's players took a 50% pay cut without notice during the early stages of the pandemic.

Players will, however, receive their June salary without delay.

Coast Stima and Nairobi Stima, both national league sides, will also be affected by the move.

Western Stima is now on a race against time to find another sponsor, with Kenya Power and Lighting Company calling it quits five years after agreeing to sponsor them.

Meanwhile, giants Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards have found new sponsors in the form of a foreign betting company, which will provide KSh 40 million and KSh 55 million per year respectively.
