Residents of Nyamache, Kisii County, are on high alert after a string of robberies in the area, with a recent incident caught on CCTV camera.
On June 25, 2020, a man was seen stealing Ksh120,000 from an M-Pesa shop in the area, with traders reporting that a gang of robbers has been terrorising them for weeks.
The thief, who is well known in the area due to scars on his face, was seen inspecting the shop before sneaking in and making off with the cash.
"As I was crossing the road he entered the shop, the person at the adjacent shop thought I was still in there, he didn't see me leave," the shop attendant noted.
Since March, there has been a rise in reported cases of break-ins after the nationwide curfew was put in place, with the loss of jobs during the pandemic also being identified as a contributing factor.
Police in Nyamache have launched investigations into the increased cases of insecurity and are urging residents to provide tips and leads to help catch the thief.
