On Thursday, June 25, 2020, Deputy President William Ruto visited various youth groups in Nairobi, donating tools and equipment to support their income-generating ventures.

Accompanied by Lang'ata MP Nixon Korir, Ruto met with leaders of groups involved in enterprises such as rearing rabbits, sewing, shoe shining, boda boda, and matatu operations.

During the ceremony, Ruto had his shoes brushed in one of the shoe shine booths he donated, taking the time to ask questions to the shoe shiner, Kevin Owuor.

Kevin Owuor, a shoe shiner, expressed gratitude to Ruto for the new booth, stating that it would alleviate their concerns about working under the sun with no shade.

As Ruto engaged with the youth leaders, he emphasized the importance of utilizing the donations to bounce back from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on their businesses.

One of the youth groups presented Ruto with a black t-shirt bearing the phrase 'Tuko Ndani na Hustler' (We are together with the Hustler), a term that Ruto has co-opted to contrast the 'dynasty' narrative in the 2022 political posturing.
