On June 25, 2020, the Mombasa Law Courts were forced to scale back operations due to a COVID-19 outbreak among staff.
Only one judge, Presiding Judge Eric Ogola, will handle urgent cases, with the handling of these matters limited to three days a week.
"There will be no open court proceedings until July 3, to be reviewed at the lapse of the intervening period," the court users committee stated.
Chief Justice David Maraga had ordered the closure of the court following the outbreak, which saw 11 members, including judicial officers and staff, contract the virus.
The Ministry of Health had directed the closure of the court premises and sent 118 members, identified as contact persons, on self-quarantine for 14 days.
Due to limited staff, a central registry will be opened for the Judicial Review and Constitutional Division and the High Court and Commercial Division to ensure services are not completely grounded.
Only urgent matters will be received and registered at the central registry, which will be placed before the presiding judge on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of every week.
