Published on June 25, 2020, a High Court in Kenya has ordered a retrial of Julius Musyoki Wambua, who was sentenced to life in prison in 2011 for allegedly defiling his daughter.
Wambua's conviction was based on testimony from his daughters, but in a dramatic twist, his younger daughter has come forward claiming that her mother coerced her into testifying against her father.
Wambua's case was previously dismissed by the Court of Appeal in May 2019, but he has now been given a second chance at justice after his lawyers, representing the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, presented new evidence to the court.
Justice George Odunga, presiding over the case, has agreed to a retrial, paving the way for Wambua to clear his name and potentially overturn his conviction.
