On June 25, 2020, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) and the Kenya National Sports Council (KNSC) launched a food stimulus program to support 150 veteran athletes who represented Kenya in international events up to 2004.

The program, which was flagged off by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed, aims to provide food relief to the athletes who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

NOCK provided a total of Sh500,000 as seed capital to the project, and the KNSC has identified needy athletes and heroes of yesteryears who will benefit from the program.

According to Charles Nyaberi, a Sports Council official, the program will not only provide food stimulus but also look to mobilize resources to offer more support, including rent tokens, in the next one month.

The program has partnered with Roy Parcel Services (RPS) to transport the relief to athletes outside the capital, which has helped cater for almost 30pc of the budget.

At the same time, the Ministry has reached out to over 2400 athletes through its cash stimulus program, and more have benefited from food packages distributed to them.

CS Amina says they are looking to expand the program to ensure they reach most of the needy athletes who have been left struggling after most sports events were cancelled.
