On June 9th, Kirinyaga MCAs impeached Governor Anne Waiguru, citing various grounds including pocketing money for trips she never made. The MCAs claimed she received Sh10.6 million in imprest for travel to the US and Italy to meet with potential buyers of Kirinyaga coffee.

However, in a bid to deflate these claims, Waiguru presented six photos to the Senate Committee hearing her impeachment case. The photos, taken during her alleged trips, show Waiguru in the company of Kirinyaga County Assembly Majority Leader Peter Marango and other county officials.

Waiguru's witness, Nominated MCA Kepher Kariuki, confirmed that the Governor made the said trips. The hearing concluded on Wednesday, and the senate team is expected to table a report in the House not later than June 25th.

Waiguru's move to present the photos is seen as an attempt to clear her name and prove that she indeed traveled to the US and Italy as claimed. The outcome of the hearing will determine her fate as the Governor of Kirinyaga County.
