On June 25, 2020, a Ksh9 million bridge in Kitengela Town, Kajiado County, collapsed just two days after its launch, sparking outrage among residents.
The bridge, which linked Kitengela and Noonkopir townships, caved in due to alleged poor building materials and workmanship by the contractor, Jesoma Constructors.
Locals claimed that the contractor used cotton soil and applied a thin layer of concrete material on metal bars, which led to the bridge's collapse.
Angered by the development, residents embarked on destroying the collapsed bridge, calling for quality work to be done on the facility.
Kitengela MCA, Francis Kaesha, vowed to ensure the contractor was disciplined for the shoddy work.
Kajiado County minister for roads, Alex Kilowua, revealed that the contractor had been relieved of the task two weeks ago and another contractor would be brought in to redo the bridge within a week.
