Published on June 25, 2020, a man identified as Simon Murimi Wanjohi is wanted by police in Kirinyaga County for allegedly killing his girlfriend and burying her in a shallow grave at his compound in Kieni Village, Kirinyaga Central Constituency.
The suspect was found digging a hole on Tuesday night by his father, who asked him what it was meant for. Wanjohi replied that it was a garbage pit.
However, when the father visited the son's home on Wednesday, he found the pit buried and alerted the area chief and neighbors, who decided to uncover the hole.
As they dug, they discovered the feet of a woman, revealing that Wanjohi had indeed buried a body.
According to Kirinyaga Central Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Daniel Ndege, relatives of the suspect claim that the woman who was killed was from Tanzania, and they are unaware of the reason behind her murder.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and Wanjohi is reported to be a rice trader in Mwea.
