On June 25, 2020, a tense standoff unfolded at City Hall as Speaker Beatrice Elachi faced a new threat to her leadership. The speaker had spent the night at City Hall ahead of a crucial budget approval for the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), which was set to be voted on at 2pm.

According to intelligence, a group of goons, led by suspended MCA Abdi Guyo and allied to Governor Sonko, had planned to arrive early and block the speaker's team, stalling the voting process. The plan was another spirited effort to oust Speaker Elachi from office.

However, the police were already aware of the impending chaos and were on high alert. The goons, who were found with crude weapons and firearms, were arrested and are currently being held at the Central Police Station.

Speaker Elachi has since claimed that her life is in danger, and this is not the first time that Guyo has led a group of goons to storm City Hall in an attempt to oust her.
