States House Officer, 5 Others Arrested Over Murder of Woman Accused of Witchcraft ¶
Police in Kilifi County, Kenya, have arrested a General Service Unit (GSU) officer and five others in connection with the murder of a 78-year-old woman and her 58-year-old son.
The incident occurred on June 24, 2020, after the death of a family member, Denies Chilifi, who was suspected of being killed through witchcraft by the two victims.
According to a police report, the GSU officer and the five others incited members of the public and stormed the home of the 78-year-old woman, Dzame Gavana Kauma, and her son, Nicholus Malingi Gavana Kauma, killing them.
Police officers visited the scene and found the two bodies burnt and with multiple deep injuries on their bodies.
The GSU officer, Derick Chilifi Mutambo, was arrested along with Arnold Malingi, a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer based at Lamu military base, and four others.
The suspects are being held at Jaribuni Police Station and will be arraigned in court once investigations are over.
