On June 24, 2020, Senegal's President Macky Sall started a preventative two-week quarantine following exposure to a coronavirus case, despite testing negative for the disease.
The West African country has reported over 6,100 COVID-19 infections and 93 deaths, with a state of emergency in place since March slowly being lifted.
According to his office, President Sall took the precautionary measure in line with medical advice, saying, "In line with medical advice on the matter, President Sall has put himself in quarantine for two weeks from Wednesday," as stated by spokesman Seydou Gueye in a televised statement.
As the pandemic continues to spread, several senior political figures worldwide have contracted the disease, including British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was hospitalized and has since recovered.
