On June 25, 2020, the World Bank's David Wachira and his fiancée Cecilia Olaussen shared the joy of their wedding with loved ones near and far, who could not attend due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the couple, they decided to 'quell the uncertainty of Covid with the certainty of our LOVE.' In a heartfelt message, they expressed their gratitude to those who could not be present, stating, 'Love always wins!'

David and Cecilia's love story began in 2018 at a World Bank Youth to Youth event in Washington, DC. Despite being thousands of miles apart, they maintained a strong connection through phone calls and emails.

After several months of conversations, David invited Cecilia to Kenya for her first visit, where they worked on two non-profit events and went on an unforgettable Safari. However, their happiness was short-lived as David had to leave for a year-long assignment in Zimbabwe.

Despite the distance, the couple made it work and had the opportunity to visit each other. It was during these visiting trips that Cecilia fell in love with Africa.

David's assignment ended in 2019, and he returned to Washington, DC. It was during this time that he proposed to Cecilia on November 5, 2019, during an intimate dinner gathering with close friends.

The wedding photos were taken by James Willis photography, and the couple's wedding video is available in full.
