On April 11, 2019, a shocking incident of corruption took place at Mathenge Gardens in Nairobi's Lower Kabete Road. A Nairobi county government employee and three others were accused of conspiring to commit an offence of corruption by requesting a bribe of KSh 100,000 from Khilan Bhikhalal Shah.
The four accused persons, Jacinta Waceera Macharia, Kimolel Korir Philip, Nancy Nanyama Wamang'oli, and Stanley Mwaniki Muriithi, allegedly threatened to charge Shah with operating a business without a permit if he failed to pay the bribe.
Additionally, the group requested a financial advantage of KSh 60,000 from Shah. Kimolel Korir Philip was also charged with receiving a financial advantage of KSh 60,000 from the businessman.
The accused persons were also accused of falsely presenting themselves as persons employed by Nairobi County government and assumed to be inspecting business permits.
On June 24, 2020, the four accused persons denied the charges before anti-corruption Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi. They were released on a bond of KSh 200,000 and cash bail of KSh 100,000.
