Kenyans React to Former CS Kiunjuri's New Party

Former Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri launched a new political party, The Service Party of Kenya (TSP), on June 24, 2020, at the party's headquarters in Nairobi.

At the press conference, Kiunjuri outlined the party's vision, which he said was centered around service delivery to the people of Kenya. The party's primary colors are yellow and red, with a heart symbol representing a commitment to serve the people.

The party's slogan is 'Huduma, Twajiamini,' which translates to 'Service, We Trust You.' However, the party's use of yellow as its primary color has raised eyebrows, as it is also the color used by William Ruto's URP party.

Some Kenyans have taken to social media to express their thoughts on the new party. Mutahi Ngunyi, a well-known commentator, congratulated Kiunjuri on inventing a party, but also jokingly said that the name is woolly and that yellow is the color of withering things.

David Murathe, a vocal critic of Kiunjuri, mocked the party's name, suggesting that it should be renamed The Stealing Party, given Kiunjuri's track record in public service.

Dr. Miguna Miguna, a prominent politician, congratulated Kiunjuri on birthing a new political party, saying that Kenya needs more vibrant parties, not less.
