Waiguru Produces Proof of Foreign Trip

On June 9, 2020, the members of county assembly (MCAs) had impeached Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, accusing her of receiving Sh10.6 million in imprest for foreign travel to the US and Italy, ostensibly to meet potential buyers of Kirinyaga coffee.

However, in a special committee hearing on Wednesday, Governor Waiguru tabled six photographs she claimed were proof of her foreign trip, countering the claims by the MCAs.

The photographs show Kirinyaga County assembly Majority Leader Peter Marango among those who made the trip, contradicting his earlier claims that the governor had not travelled.

Mr Marango was seen in the photographs wearing a white dust coat and factory cap, holding products in what looks like a factory, while engaged in a discussion with some two white men.

Another photograph shows the governor, in a blue coat, addressing a gathering behind a rostrum called The Westin, which is claimed to be in New York City. Mr Marango is sitting on her right and listening attentively.

Mr Kepher Kariuki, a nominated MCA and the governor's second witness, appeared before the committee and identified Mr Marango in the photographs, but could not confirm the setting of the photo, only saying,
