Harambee Sacco Revolutionizes Card Issuance with Instant Visa Debit Cards ¶
On June 24, 2020, Harambee Sacco, one of the leading Savings and Credit Co-operatives in Kenya, launched an instant card-issuance system for its members.
This innovative system, enabled by the Co-operative Bank, allows members to apply for and instantly receive a Visa Debit card, eliminating the need to wait for up to two weeks.
Chairman of Harambee Sacco, Macloud Malonza, lauded the partnership between Harambee Sacco and Co-operative Bank, stating that the instant card-issuance system will significantly boost convenience for Sacco members.
"The launch of this instant card issuance is timely, indeed overdue, as it will greatly enhance convenience for our members who from today no longer have to wait for weeks before they receive their cards," said Malonza.
He added that the instant issuing of cards is consistent with government guidelines intended to minimize the use of cash in favor of cashless transactions to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.
With the roll-out of instant card issuance, Co-op Bank will extend this service to millions of Kenyans through the regulated Saccos in Kenya.
As of 2020, Harambee Sacco has over 70,000 members, an asset base of KSh 30 billion, and runs six branches spread across the country.
