On June 24, 2020, a sting operation by the General Service Unit (GSU) at the Bluepost roadblock in Thika caught four police officers in the act of bribery. The operation targeted motorists violating the cessation of movement order.
According to Capital, Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai confirmed the arrest of the four police officers in the operation.
Earlier, on June 21, Citizen TV aired a feature dubbed Virus Safaris that highlighted how easy it was to breach the cessation of movement set by President Uhuru Kenyatta on April 6. Investigative reporter Purity Mwambia traveled from Nairobi to Eldoret using a personal car, exposing the workings of drivers who collaborated with others to move past roadblocks.
As a result of the Citizen TV exposé, the GSU operation led to the arrest of 16 drivers and 48 passengers at the Bluepost roadblock. The roadblocks, set up to cordon off the Nairobi Metropolitan area, have not been effective, with many managing to sneak in and out of Nairobi by using alternative routes or bribing their way past roadblocks.
On June 15, Matiang'i was caught up in public protests over a roadblock along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
