On June 24, 2020, Kenya Power employees faced a tense situation in Umoja estate as residents protested their mission to disconnect power due to unpaid bills.
The residents were outraged, citing a recent government plea to spare households affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
According to eyewitnesses, the workers were sent to the area by their bosses, but they were forced to flee after being trailed by angry residents.
They sped off and disappeared towards Sango stage in Umoja Innercore.
Some residents claimed to have given money to the workers to prevent their electricity from being disconnected, but Nairobi News could not verify these claims.
Kenya Power's acting corporate communication manager, Kevin Sang, stated that he was following up on the matter with the relevant regional authority.
"Kindly tell me where they are so that we can follow up on the matter. I don't think such instructions were given out," he said.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe had implored Kenya Power not to disconnect power when Kenyans delay in paying their electricity bills in April 2020.
