On June 24, 2020, former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri launched his new political party, The Service Party (TSP), in Nairobi.

Speaking at the launch, Kiunjuri emphasized that TSP will be a grassroots national party that will listen to Kenyans and prioritize their needs, particularly in areas such as food insecurity, unemployment, and access to basic necessities like affordable healthcare and clean water.

‘We are deeply aware and saddened by the enduring divisions, persistent quarrelling and the general slide towards divisionism that has become part of our politics. We therefore come with an honest realization that service cannot be effectively delivered in this kind of environment,’ Kiunjuri said.

TSP's symbol, the heart, represents the party's promise to serve humanity and fellow Kenyans. Kiunjuri outlined that the party will embark on listening tours in August 2020 to integrate the views of its members and strengthen ownership of the party.

Notably, this is not Kiunjuri's first foray into party leadership, having previously led the Grand National Unity Party (GNU) before it merged with Jubilee Party. He has ruled out seeking the Laikipia Gubernatorial seat, instead focusing on leading TSP to prosperity through by-elections in Nairobi and Naivasha.
