Kenya's Coronavirus Cases Rise to 5,206 ¶
On June 24, 2020, Kenya's coronavirus cases rose to 5,206 after 254 more patients tested positive from a sample size of 4,859 carried out in the last 24 hours.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi announced the new cases during the daily COVID-19 briefings at Afya House. She stated that all the new patients are Kenyans, comprising 186 males and 68 females.
The distribution of the new cases in terms of counties is as follows: Nairobi (127), Mombasa (36), Migori (29), Kajiado (22), Kiambu (12), Busia (9), Uasin Gishu (5), Muranga (3), Machakos and Kilifi (2 cases each), Nakuru, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Garissa, Isiolo, Kakamega, and Kisii (1 case each).
Dr. Mwangangi also stated that 41 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,823. The number of fatalities also rose to 130 after two more patients succumbed to the disease.
Nationally, Nairobi Metropolitan area leads in the number of coronavirus cases at 2,428, followed by Mombasa at 1,304 and Busia with 361.
Dr. Mwangangi expressed her gratitude to healthcare workers and Community Health Volunteers for their commitment and dedication to the Home Based and Isolation Care program.
