Uganda men's national football team captain Dennis Onyango has taken to social media to remind President Yoweri Museveni of a $1 million pledge made in 2019 after participating in the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Onyango, who was voted the best African-based player in 2016, posted a video on Twitter reminding Museveni to fulfill the pledge.
The Uganda Cranes were grouped with hosts Egypt in Group A, alongside the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe, during the African Cup of Nations. They qualified for the next round in second place after beating DR Congo 2-0 and earning a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe. However, they were eliminated by Senegal in the Round of 16 courtesy of an early Sadio Mane goal.
Onyango posted on Twitter: 'In these tough times with everyone trying to fend for themselves, we find the timing right to remind you as the No.1 citizen of the Pearl of Africa about the $1m promise soon after our respectable show during the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt last year. We feel frustrated & unhappy our token of appreciation hangs in balance. Please intervene.'

Perennial Kenyan champions Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards have landed new partnership deals with BET HIGH Kenya Limited, under the brand name Betsafe. The partnership deal means that the betting firm will be the clubs' official head sponsor, as well as shirt sponsor.
From the sponsorship deal, Gor will receive Sh55 million per season while old lady rival Leopards will receive Sh40 million. The new partnership deal comes as a relief to both clubs, which have endured a lot of financial crisis in the 2019/2020 season.
