June 24, 2020 - The impeachment case against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has brought to the fore the name of Pauline Kamau, her personal assistant who has been at the center of controversy.
According to sources, Kamau was appointed to Kirinyaga County as the Personal Assistant to the Governor without presenting any academic qualifications to the County Public Service Board, apart from her birth certificate.
Waiguru later appointed Kamau to chair several tender committees, where she alternated with ICT Director Gichira Wayne.
The County Assembly claims that Velocity Enterprises, which was awarded a Ksh 50 million tender, is owned by Waiguru's relatives.
Photos of Pauline Kamau have now emerged on social media, sparking outrage on social media platforms.
As the scandal unfolds, it has emerged that Waiguru and Kamau were colleagues during the Governor's tenure as Devolution CS, and appeared together for hearings at the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee during the National Youth Service (NYS) investigations.
Pauline Kamau's appointment and influence in the tender process has drawn comparisons to the Josephine Kabura scandal involving Waiguru.
