Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is facing allegations of irregularly awarding tenders to a company called Velocity Limited, which some claim is a fictitious entity.

During a Senate hearing on her impeachment, Governor Waiguru's first witness, Carilus Otieno, the director of the county's supply chain, testified that the company existed, despite claims of a typo in the company's name.

Mr. Otieno stated that the issue was a minor typo, with the company's name being Velocty instead of Velocity, and that the error was immaterial.

However, lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, who is representing the county assembly, pointed out discrepancies in the awarding of the tender to the company, claiming that it did not qualify.

The lawyer also raised concerns about a conflict of interest in the tendering process, citing the involvement of Pauline Kamau, the governor's former PA, in several questionable tenders.

The MCAs have accused Governor Waiguru of gross misconduct, including gross violation of the Constitution, undermining the authority of the county assembly, and abuse of office.
