On Tuesday, June 23, 2020, a dramatic scene unfolded in Emukhambi Village, Navakholo, Kakamega County, as a 57-year-old man, Issa Arafat, physically assaulted his 38-year-old wife, Afusa Namiswa, over allegations of infidelity.

Arafat, a resident of Emukhambi Village, claimed he had discovered his wife's alleged infidelity when he visited his ailing father at a private hospital in Kakamega County, where Namiswa works as a tea lady.

However, Namiswa denies the allegations, stating that she serves tea at the hospital and greets her colleagues, including the man Arafat accused her of cheating with, who cleans patients' wounds after surgical procedures.

‘I am not unfaithful. I serve tea at the hospital; the man he is accusing me of secretly seeing, cleans patients’ wounds after surgical procedures. The nature of my work demands I greet people before serving them. On several occasions, when I meet the man he is accusing me of cheating with, I have to greet him and know how he is doing. So, when my husband saw me talking to my colleague, he thought I was flirting with him. I have never cheated on him,’ said Namiswa.

According to neighbours, Arafat descended on his wife with kicks and blows upon returning home on Tuesday evening, prompting the victim's screams to attract the attention of neighbours, who rushed to the scene and rescued Namiswa.

Enraged, Arafat then embarked on removing the doors of his house, the roof, and bringing down the walls, declaring, ‘I don’t want my cheating wife to live here anymore’.

The suspect was arrested Tuesday evening for causing grievous bodily harm to his wife.
