On June 24, 2020, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) issued a statement refuting claims of a new road being constructed through Nairobi National Park.

According to KWS, the claims were 'not true, and a total misrepresentation of the facts.'

The statement explained that a local contractor engaged by KWS was improving the road joining KWS Headquarters to Central Workshop inside the park.

The contractor was scooping murram from a quarry near the Standard Gauge Railway for use on the existing murram road, and would rehabilitate the quarry pit after completing the works in accordance with an Environmental Management Plan.

These claims were made in response to social media reports circulating online, including a picture of a den of lions at Nairobi National Park watching as their habitat was being destroyed.
