On June 24, 2020, Absa Kenya Plc announced the appointment of Charles Njenga Murito to its board as an Independent Non-executive Member. Murito brings 20 years of experience in the content, digital, and technology sectors.
As the Government Affairs and Public Policy Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at Google, Murito has extensive knowledge and experience in technology, innovation, and data. These areas are key elements of Absa Kenya's growth strategy, according to Chairman Charles Muchene.
“Charles brings to the Board his notable passion for customers, as well as his extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of technology, innovation, and data, all of which are key elements of the bank’s growth strategy,” said Muchene.

With over 20 years of experience, Murito has helped leading tech, media, and entertainment companies define their strategy, grow, and expand their footprint in emerging markets.
His appointment comes at a time when Absa Kenya has completed a separation and rebranding exercise from its former parent company Barclays Bank UK.
