On June 24, 2020, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha announced plans to ensure a safe return to school amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a tour of Kilifi County, Magoha directed that each learner be provided with two face masks and that all schools be equipped with thermo guns to aid in determining the temperatures of individuals seeking access to learning institutions.

“Every school will also have thermo guns for temperature checks,” he said.

The government aims to provide 24 million masks in September, with each child set to receive at least two masks.

Teachers are expected to report to school a fortnight before learners, as part of the measures to ensure a smooth reopening.
