On June 22, 2020, Speaker Justin Muturi dealt a blow to Nyali MP Mohammed Ali's efforts to oust Transport CS Michael Macharia from office.
Ali had given notice to table a motion seeking to remove Macharia from office over his order to use the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to transport cargo from Mombasa to Naivasha ICD.
However, Muturi threw out the petition, stating that there was no sufficient evidence to warrant the tabling of the motion.
According to Muturi, the proposed motion was not admissible, and he directed the Clerk to communicate this decision to Ali.
The petition, signed by 90 MPs, accused Macharia of overseeing stalled government projects worth Ksh. 100 billion and being part of the Afya House scandal that saw taxpayers lose Ksh. 5.2 billion in 2016 when he was in charge of the Health docket.
Ali also accused Macharia of failing to explain the loss of Ksh. 1.5 billion that was meant for construction of housing projects in Nairobi by Suraya Property Group, which he linked to Macharia.
