On June 24, 2020, luxury hotel group Hemingways reopened its Nairobi and Watamu properties after a two-month break forced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The re-opening followed the fulfillment of protocols laid down by the government, with Hemingways adopting measures that go above and beyond the minimum government standards to ensure guest comfort and security.

"The COVID-19 preventative measures we have adopted in our properties go above and beyond the minimum government standards to offer complete comfort and security to our guests while ensuring the unique experience of staying at Hemingways Collection is retained," said Hemingways Collection Group CEO Alastair Addison.

Despite the challenges faced by the hospitality sector, Hemingways has opted to keep its 400 members of staff on board, rather than declaring redundancies.

However, Hemingways' Ol Seki Mara property will remain shut for now, with preparations underway for its reopening.
