On June 23, 2020, as a Senate Committee was hearing her impeachment case, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was seen engrossed in a game of Solitaire on her phone.

Waiguru's impeachment hearing has been ongoing, with the 11-member Senate Committee tasked with investigating the matter and submitting a report by June 25, 2020.

Earlier in the hearing, Waiguru described her impeachment as unfortunate, stating that it was sponsored by individuals seeking to settle political scores.

“Impeachment and removal from office was never intended, and should never be based on falsities, innuendo, rumor, hearsay, conjecture, and certainly not malice,” Waiguru stated.

On June 9, 2020, 23 out of 33 Kirinyaga MCAs voted in support of the motion to remove Governor Waiguru, citing gross misconduct, abuse of office, and gross violation of the constitution as the main grounds for her removal.
