On Tuesday, Nairobi County signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC) to equip and operationalize the Kariokor Leather factory.

The county will provide the constructed facility, while the KLDC will provide modern machines to enhance the production of high-quality and affordable footwear and leather products.

According to Governor Mike Sonko, a Management Advisory Committee will be established to oversee the partnership, comprising representatives from the county government, the KLDC, and Kariokor manufacturers.

The initiative aligns with President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big Four Agenda to boost manufacturing and create jobs for youth, while bolstering the 'Buy Kenya, Build Kenya' initiative.

Present during the MoU signing ceremony were Dr. Issack M. Noor, CEO of the KLDC, and Ms. Angela Njeri Chege, the Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal Unit at the KLDC.
