June 23, 2020, marked the start of the impeachment hearing of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru at County Hall. The hearing comes after the Governor was impeached by Kirinyaga MCAs early this month.

The MCAs accuse Waiguru of gross violation of the constitution and abuse of office. Key allegations include the Governor opening a Kirinyaga Coffee Shop in London, which does not exist. The MCAs claim this is a clear abuse of office.

Waiguru is also accused of influencing the award of tenders in the county by getting one of her friends to chair all tender committees. The friend, a former Personal Assistant, was appointed to a senior position without the required academic papers.

Meanwhile, blogger Dennis Itumbi claims to have evidence that Waiguru fired her driver because he farted in the vehicle. A former Waiguru driver is quoted as saying, "Waiguru fired me for suspecting me of farting.."

Waiguru has denied the allegations, accusing the MCAs of targeting her without evidence. She claims they are on a fishing expedition.

During the hearing, Waiguru was pictured playing games on her phone, with some netizens claiming she was comfortable because she already knew the outcome of the motion. Others said she was not worried because her husband, Waiganjo Kamotho, was her lead lawyer and couldn't let anything go wrong.
