Published on June 23, 2020, a Citizen TV reporter has been haunted by death threats after exposing the poor state of roads in Kesses Sub County, Uasin Gishu.
John Wanyama, a journalist with Citizen TV, received the threats from two Uasin Gishu Members of Parliament after he covered a story on the dilapidated roads in the area.
A group of lawyers from Eldoret has called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Office of Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) to investigate the matter.
The lawyers, who are concerned about the safety of journalists, noted that the threats are a clear indication of the growing violence in the region.
"A whole Member of Parliament can have a militia of about 20 people to threaten a journalist with death threats and the Member of Parliament is Privy to such discussion, we are going to the dogs if in one year to elections some can have a militia," said the lawyer.
Wanyama has already recorded a statement with the DCI on the alleged threats from goons hired by the members of parliament.
Residents of Kesses living along Kesses-Lessos road have bemoaned the poor state of roads and called on the county government to intervene.
Uasin Gishu MP Swarup Mishra had earlier assured his constituents that all dilapidated roads will be amended after rains pounding the region reduce.
