On June 23, 2020, the family of Brian Kimani, a 13-year-old boy who had been battling cancer for four months, was finally able to lay him to rest.

The hospital, Gertrudes, had released Brian's body after his family was unable to pay the KSh 11.9 million hospital bill.

According to his father, the family had been in communication with the hospital regarding the payment of the bill.

However, the hospital had decided to release Brian's body after four months, citing the need to adhere to COVID-19 protocols.

The government had given the family only 45 minutes to bury Brian, which his father described as a difficult decision.

"The government gave us 45 minutes to bury our son, which was one of the conditions set by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of COVID-19," his father said.

Brian was buried at his home in Ndenderu, Kiambu County.
