On June 23, 2020, Novak Djokovic, the world's top-ranked men's tennis player, announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 in a statement.

According to Djokovic, he and his wife, Jelena, had tested positive for the virus, while their children had tested negative.

"The moment we arrived in Belgrade we went to be tested," Djokovic said. "My result is positive, just as Jelena's, while the results of our children are negative."

He expressed regret for the infections and hoped that the virus would not complicate anyone's health situation, adding that he would remain in self-isolation for 14 days and repeat the test in five days.

The news comes after several players, including Croatia's Borna Coric, Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov, and Serbia's Viktor Troicki, had previously tested positive for COVID-19 after participating in Djokovic's Adria Tour exhibition tournament.

The tournament, which was held in the Balkan region, had seen packed stands and players hugging at the net, playing basketball, and attending press conferences together.

With both Serbia and Croatia easing lockdown measures before the event, players were not required to observe social distancing rules.

However, following Djokovic's positive test, the remainder of the Adria Tour was cancelled, including a two-day event in Banja Luka, Bosnia, and an exhibition match in Sarajevo, Bosnia.
