On June 23, 2020, Wiper Party's National Chairman Chirau Ali Makwere addressed a press conference in Nairobi, Kenya, where he announced that the party had written to former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama to explain why he should not face disciplinary action.
The move comes after Muthama publicly declared his support for Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential election, a position not supported by the party and its leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
According to Makwere, Muthama has been given two weeks to respond to the show-cause letter, warning him that he risks being expelled from the party if he fails to toe the line.
Wiper Deputy Leader Farah Maalim also weighed in, stating that anyone working against President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Wiper Leader will not be spared.
The party's disciplinary action against Muthama is also linked to his alleged neglect of duties as a National Executive Committee (NEC) member.
