Published on June 23, 2020, Andela, a software company, has made significant changes to its operations in Africa. The company has closed all its offices on the continent and will sell its equipment to select staff.
This move comes after Andela fired 135 employees in May 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a significant impact on the company's customer base and growth.
According to an ex-employee, Andela will maintain only one office worldwide, which will serve as a sales office. This decision will allow the company to operate remotely, as announced earlier.
Andela's CEO, Jeremy Johnson, revealed the intention to move fully remote last month. In a blog post, Jeremy explained that the move was part of reorganizing the company to create a global network of engineers that supports long-term and trust-based relationships between teams.
As Jeremy Johnson stated, 'In 2020, the same office approach that helped us create opportunities for brilliant minds when we first started now restricts opportunities for talented engineers who can’t (or choose not to) relocate. As such, requiring offices is now part of the problem we are working to solve.'
