On June 20, 2020, a Kenyan woman tragically lost her life in a car crash in Jacksonville, Florida.

Jane Njeri Ngugi, a 13-year-old son's mother, was identified as the victim. She had recently moved to Florida from Washington, DC, to start a new job.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, a 911 call was made at 2:42 am, reporting a car submerged in a ditch near a condominium complex off Eclipse Circle.

With the help of GPS, police located the car and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) responded immediately to rescue the occupants.

Unfortunately, Ngugi was pronounced dead at Baptist South after efforts to resuscitate her failed. The condition of the other occupant remains unknown.

Ngugi's family expressed their grief, stating that she was a brand new driver who needed to drive to work and that the car ended her life.
